Her hockey romances are more explicit, mouthier and can be funnier (hello, A Favor for a Favor or Pucked Off) but also feature a lot of casual sex, drinking, and contrived social media angst with hockey pros that can really drag the book down (hello, Pucked and A Lie for a Lie). ***I received an ARC from Social Butterly PR in exchange for an honest review. This authors books are all over the place for me. If you don’t mind these types of stories, you’ll definitely find enjoyment with Hanna and Jake. I enjoyed the beginning of the novel, but the rest left me indifferent. Overall, A Kiss for a Kiss is not a story I would seek out on my own because I dislike the surprise pregnancy trope so much. On the other hand, I enjoyed Queenie and Ryan’s story so much that I wasn’t mad to see them constantly popping up in A Kiss for a Kiss. I think this time would have been better served focusing on Hanna and Jake’s budding relationship. I wish Hunting would have taken her time exploring Hanna and Jake’s relationship before jumping into the pregnancy.Ī lot of page time is dedicated to the characters coming to grips with the pregnancy, which I thought was appropriate however I think too much time was given to Ryan’s feelings. There were only a handful of chapters at the beginning of the novel that explored their developing relationship before Hanna found out she was pregnant. The reason I rated A Kiss for a Kiss three stars instead of four (other than the pregnancy trope) was because Hanna and Jake’s chemistry wasn’t fully explored. Whenever this trope pops up in a book, it usually goes down in my estimation.

A Kiss for a Kiss features the surprise pregnancy trope, which is a storyline I dislike immensely.

Helena Hunting is an automatic buy author for me, so I applied for the ARC without reading the synopsis. And as I’ve already said…it’s complicated.īut when Hanna finds out she’s pregnant…suddenly things get real serious. Here’s the problem: we live on opposite ends of the country. It starts with one searing kiss, but quickly ends with us between the sheets-and in the shower, and the hot tub, you get the picture-and turns into months of sneaking around. And I spent months trying to keep a lid on that attraction. I’ve been drawn to her from the moment I laid eyes on her. The truth is a little more scandalous than that. For the last twenty-plus years, Queenie has been my main priority, but now she’s getting married.Ī beautiful, sexy complication named Hanna.

I walked away from a career as a player so I could raise my daughter. I’m Jake Masterson, single dad, and the General Manager of Seattle’s NHL team. Haven’t read the previous novels? Check out my reviews of A Lie for a Lie, A Favor for a Favor, and A Secret for a Secret.
